| FYI
You have decided on a security system for you business or home,
it has been installed and is operating. You feel protected and
secure. But there is more. There are preventative steps that you can
take to...
Increase the effectiveness of your Security
System Elimination or reducing false alarms will directly
increase the effectiveness of your security system. False alarms are
not difficult to prevent. In fact, most are caused by simple
error.
The alarm decal on your window says to a burglar, "If you break
in, the police or neighbors are going to show up." False alarms
erode the effectiveness of that response - the whole reason for your
system in the first place.
Why One False Alarm Is Too Many It's unusual for one
person or business to have more than 3 false alarms a year. If
everybody has just a couple, it's still thousands of unneeded
responses for the police.
The problem is not a few people having all the false alarms, but
everybody having a few and thinking it's no problem. It adds up to a
problem. Every alarm owner should aim for no false alarms.
An activation of your alarm without signs of forced entry is
considered by the police to be "found secure". For continued
police response, every "found secure" should be investigated and
resolved by the responsible alarm company within eight working hours
to prevent a repeat of the same.
If you have a false alarm - even just one - call
your alarm company. Together you can discuss the situation, find the
solution and avoid repeating a mistake.
