FYI ~ The Three
Main Causes of False Alarms and how to Prevent
Them continued...
People National surveys
indicate that people who don't know how to use security systems
properly are the single largest problem. "Knowing how to work a
system" includes knowing what to do if something goes wrong.
- When you give someone the key to your house or business, you
also need to instruct that person in the proper operation of your
alarm system.
Remember this rule: If they use your key, they
must be able to use your alarm.
- Even the occasional user needs to be taken through your
security systems operation step by step. Have them show you they
know how to use it.
They should be able to:
- Operate your keypad with your access code
- Call or expect a call from your alarm company if hte system is
accidentally activated
- Repeat the authorized code word or number if necessary
If you make sure these people have a basic understanding of how
your alarm system works, they'll have a better chance of working it
properly, and fewer problems will occur.
The Equipment It is the least likely cause of a false
alarm, but equipment can malfunction.
- If you've had repair or remodeling done near any part of your
system, or you've reconfigured your business space, call your
alarm company for help in testing your equipment. Wires can be
accidentally cut or sensors blocked.
- Periodic maintenance is very important, especially when you
are relying on your system to operate 24 hours a day. You can
prevent equipment failure by having it checked. Your alarm company
can recommend how often your particular equipment should need
this.
