| FYI ~ The Three
Main Causes of False Alarms and how to Prevent Them
False alarms are not difficult to prevent. In
fact, most are caused by simple mistakes.
The Environment Things in
and around your home or business. An unlatched door with an
alarm sensor on it can blow open and trigger or activate an alarm. A
loose fitting door with a sensor on it doesn't even have to open to
trip the alarm. The obvious advice: make sure all your doors are
firmly latched and close snuggly. Before you set your alarm, take a
moment to physically check all doors.
An open window is not only a security risk, but can let in enough
wind to trigger or activate a motion detector. Check for open
windows before you leave your house.
Animals can trigger or activate your motion detector. If your pet
is supposed to be outside, make sure it's not actually hiding
somewhere inside. If a pet is supposed to stay in a part of the
house where it can't trigger or activate a motion detector, make
sure it can't escape somehow.
In many instances, your alarm company can help you adjust your
security system to keep pets out of sensor paths. In your warehouse,
the same adjustments can be made for the occasional bird or rodent
that gets in.
There are some things your system can't be adjusted for, you need
to take care of them. For example, mylar balloons can trigger a
motion detector even if they're barely moving. Remember to remove
these things from areas covered by a motion detector.
